Happy Birthday to Shane!

Today is Shane's birthday!!!!

We are having a few friends over to watch movies, eat pizza and chai milkshakes, and celebrate our favorite birthday boy. Until then though, this wife is cleaning and letting her man enjoy a lazy Saturday.

What are you doing this weekend?!

You Know You're an Adult When...

... you spend a perfectly good lazy Sunday afternoon discussing paying down your mortgage early and the current status of your Roth IRA...

... yep, we are pretty exciting around here!

Right now we are doing a lot of working, kitty snuggling, and staying warm!

If you want to see more frequent goings on here at the Compound you can check in to my personal blog http://earthmuffine.blogspot.com/

The 2nd Annual Turkey Don't Care Turkey Fry

... it all started last year when Shane thought he might want a turkey fryer (for frying turkey) and I thought I might want a turkey fryer (to can with because we have a ceramic cooktop that is BAD for canning). So we bought a fryer, invited a bunch of friends over, and fried a turkey! It was such a hit (and I still hadn't used the fryer for canning a single thing) so we had another one! We've used it a few other times but the Turkey Fry has officially become a Chapman tradition!

The funny part about this is I am not generally a huge fan of deep fried "stuff" (which might make me the weirdest Hoosier ever but it is what it is...) but the process makes for a juicy and super savory turkey... really!

Here are a few shots from the big night! Yum!

Shane injecting the bird with seasoning yumminess!

Fall Date Day 2012

In the fall of 2006 as we were transitioning to Indianapolis with Macabean and I in the apartment and Shane working on selling the Bloomington house, we have taken a day (or two), and enjoyed a fall "date day". Date day usually involves lunch, apple and pumpkin picking, sneaking kisses in the beautiful canopy of fall colors and generally just being outside in the cool, crispy air.

This year with apple picking at a premium thanks to the wonky Indiana weather, we tried a new orchard a tad closer to home and picked a peck full of seconds, a few acorn squash, and a wee patch of pumpkins.... and of course snuck a kiss or two :) Yah for my new favorite fall tradition! :)
